Narooma has more beaches than you can poke a stick at. From the truly safe beach with a shark net and no real waves to the awesome surfing beaches where the waves can be seen from space (they can't really, I'm just making that up because it sounds dramatic). There are some great beaches all up and down the coast, most of them are easy to get to. There are only a few that are patrolled, they are the beaches at the southern end of the Golf Course and the main beach near the Dalmeny Shops. There are quite a few beaches that are pet friendly as well so you can take your dogs down for a run on the sand and a swim in the surf. While there isn't generally much of a problem with Blue-Bottle Jellyfish they can be found at most beaches during the warmer months so be careful. Beach fishing is very popular in Narooma so if you see a fisherman don't swim to close to them as it scares off the fish, or worse you could end up witha hook in your leg which we are lead to beleive is quite painful. Family games are very popular on the beaches, Beach Cricket and Volley Ball for example. Most games played on the beach need more people so don't be shy, walk up and ask if you can join in. Be aware of rips and under-currents. They can be quite strong and can easily drag you away from the beach and out to see. If you get caught in a rip it is vital that you don't panic - let it take you out and then calmly swim around it back to shore. Do not try to swim against it or through it to get onto the beach, just sit back and relax while you are swept out until the rip stops then swim around it. Parents should keep an eye on small children as they make good bait and fisherman are keen to use them to catch bigger fish. Just kidding! But keep a close eye on them while swimming at the beach as big waves can be very frightening for a small child who may panic when dumped.
